This 16 day, or optionally 14 day, tour of the Romantic Road region will take you through some of the oldest and best preserved medieval towns of Germany located in the midst of the breathtaking landscapes of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg in the south of Germany.

What will we see?

As we drive through the region, you will see mountains and lakes, forests and fields. Be prepared to  be amazed by a wide variety of monuments constructed in a range of styles from Renaissance to Baroque, Rococo and Romanesque Revival. The history of the region will gradually take shape as you hear the delightful stories of unconventional people and places that often sound like fairy tales. On the other hand, a visit to a concentration camp will give you a glimpse of the darker side of German history. As you enjoy all of these experiences, you will sample the local cuisine. Some highlights (weather conditions and seasons permitting):

  • Zugspitze

the highest point of Germany with a view over 4 countries
  • Neuschwanstein, the fairy tale castle that inspired Disney castles
  • completely preserved original medieval fortresses
  • medieval churches including miracle churches
  • hiking through the impact crater of a meteorite, the only one of its kind on Earth
  • medieval monastery and workshops
  • concentration camp
  • living it up in an international casino
  • enjoying the local birds and animals in national parks
  • enjoying a natural springs and spa experience
  • picnicking by the lakeside like the locals

Customizable part of the trip

At the end of the Romantic Road, you could choose to simply return home or spend 3 days exploring Berlin, a capital city like no other in the world. Berlin is known for being the cheapest capital in Europe and the city with the craziest alternative culture. So in Berlin, everything is “normal” and everyone can be themselves. Check out our Berlin tour pages for more information.
